Tasting - "Yellow Tail Shiraz"

Tasting - "Yellow Tail Shiraz"

  • Name: Yellow Tail Shiraz
  • Variety: Shiraz
  • Region: Riverina
  • Country: Australia
  • Year: 2017
  • Price: $5
  • Wine Critic Review: "'This vibrant red shows juicy blackberry flavors and hints of spice, finishing with an open texture.' The palate is perfectly balanced, with soft tannins and fine French oak, complemented by ripe fruit flavors." -Wine Spectator on Total Wine & More's website (https://www.totalwine.com/wine/red-wine/syrah-shiraz/yellow-tail-shiraz/p/93193750)
  • My Review: The wine had a full, fruity aroma with a hint of warm spices. The wine has a tannic taste which slightly masks the more subtle flavors of red fruit. The wine started smooth but had a sharp finish. It was very drinkable.
  • I did not have the wine with any food, but I had recently eaten ice cream about an hour before drinking it. This may have made this drier wine taste less appealing. I also tasted a Pinot Grigio before tasting this Shiraz.
